Find happiness in food

Whenever there are promotions of weight loss or healthy eating it usually involves strict diets, or tactics that cause people to limit themselves. Although it may seem effective lots of restrictions can actually cause people to gain weight or even form an eating disorder.  Eating healthy is not only a choice but also an obligation we have to our bodies. It can be tempting to indulge in sweets, fried foods and bunch of other junk. The mindset people go in with changing their diets also plays a big role in what motivates them to et healthier.

Changing a person's perspective of eating healthy foods for health purposes is less effective than viewing eating healthy foods for a person's overall  well being. An example is in a study done in Australia with 12,000 participates. The level of happiness some people felt after eating was linked to eating healthier meals that incorporated more fruits and vegetables. This went for all people from different sub groups based on age, race and sex. Also, different time frames (24 hrs, 14 days, and 24 months) showed an increase in mental well being and overall life satisfaction.

Another study was done where participants had food diaries, which allowed more of an accurate representation of what they ate and how it affected them. There were different factors that brought to light what tend to make people the happiest when eating. One factor was eating during dinner and snack time they experienced more satisfaction than in comparison to breakfast and lunch. Another factor was that people cared more bout with exactly they were eating rather than the title of "healthy", or "unhealthy." They were more concerned if the meals incorporates meats, carbs, veggies, etc. Overall the happiness in a “healthy” meal vs an “unhealthy” meal were pretty equivalent. This can help to break the common belief that sweets are the only source of comfort foods. People can incorporate healthier food options and still achieve the same level of satisfaction.
